OFFICIAL INFORMATION ACT REQUEST
I refer to your official information request on 23 April 2019 for "a summary of the total
costs that the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) incurred in
their response to the Tasman Fires that commenced on 5th February 2019". You
advised on 7 May 2019 that you intended to request the costs incurred by the
Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI), rather than those incurred by MBIE.
MPI incurred the following costs in responding to the Tasman Fires, which are
released to you under the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA).

Staff costs have been estimated based on hours reported by the 52 MPI staff and
contractors involved in the response, including specialist veterinarians and animal
welfare experts. The support costs reflect the funding provided to the Tasman District
Council and the Top of the South Rural Support Trust to assist them in helping
farmers to protect stock and recover from the damage caused by the fires. Please
note that all amounts include an additional twenty percent to reflect the costs which
are still being processed or are yet to be filed.
