Thank you for your email of 27 May 2019, asking for the following information under the Official 
Information Act 1982 (the Act): 
 
I would be interested to find out how many claims have been made in Hamilton in total as a 
result of accidents on escooters. 
 
Injury claims involving an e-scooter 
Please find information on injuries involving e-scooters in the table below. This information is provided 
from 14 October 2018, the date that Lime Scooters were first introduced to New Zealand. When 
reviewing this information, refer to the notes section.

Notes 
•  The claim has ‘scooter’ in the sport field or the accident description and has any of the following 
keywords in the accident description: ‘electric’, ‘electronic’, ‘e-scooter’, ‘motorised’, motorized’, 
lime’. 
•  The data is based on the date of accident and includes only accepted claims. Some accidents 
may have occurred in the specified timeframe that have not yet lodged a claim, or for which a 
cover decision has not yet been made. 
•  ACC is reliant on the information a person provides on their ACC45 injury claim form which is 
completed when they seek medical treatment for their injury. There is a free-text accident 
description field on the form where a person can provide a brief description of how the accident 
happened. There is significant variation in the accuracy of information clients provide in this 
field. As such, the above should not be considered a definitive count of the number of claims for 
the specified criteria. 
•  The data was extracted on 25 May 2019 and may differ if rerun later. 
 
Privacy 
ACC does not disclose low value data. Accordingly, some entries in the table only indicate that the 
relevant number is less than four. This limits the potential for individuals or matters specific to certain 
individuals from being identified. Withholding in this way is necessary to protect the privacy of these 
individuals under section 9(2)(a) of the Act. In doing so, we have considered the public interest in 
making the information available and have determined that it does not outweigh the need to protect 
the privacy of these persons.
