Dear Anna
OFFICIAL INFORMATION ACT REQUEST OIA-19-35 – MAORI AND PACIFC STUDENTS AND STAFF IN ARTS
I refer to your official information request dated 29 May for information on the number of Maori and Pacific
enrolments and Maori and Pacific staff employment within the Col ege of Arts. You requested:
1. The number of staff employed since 2012 in
a. The School of Fine Arts
b. The School of Music
c. The School of Art History and Theory
d. The School of Cinema Studies
You requested that where possible, the staff numbers be broken down into positions. Due to low numbers, the University is not able to release this information as it would al ow specific staff
members to be identifiable. It is therefore withheld under s9(2)(a), to protect the privacy of natural
persons. However, we can provide some summary information. The below table shows the number of
Maori and Pacifica staff working across the Col ege of Arts each year since 2018.

2. The number of students enrol ed since 2012 in

c. School of Art History and Theory
d. School of Cinema Studies
The information you have requested is provided below. Our system categorises enrolments by
departments, which may differ from the schools you requested. As such, we have provided al the relevant
departments we capture, where numbers of enrol ed students per year were higher than five. The “Other”
category includes departments where enrolment numbers are too few to release, and have been combined
under s9(2)(a), to protect the privacy of those students. Please note that over the years some programmes
and subjects have been incorporated into other departments, and some programmes have ceased. This
may be reflected in the names of departments and varying numbers. In addition, if students identify as
Maori and Pacifica, their information may be counted in both tables.
