Thank you for your email of 29 May 2019, asking for the following information under the Official
Information Act 1982 (the Act):
“I would like to know if ACC have investments in fossil fuel exploration, mining, and production
because of climate change and if ACC is considering revising its ethical investment policy to cover
fossil fuels.”
ACC’s investment in fossil fuels
Yes, ACC does hold investments in companies involved in fossil fuel exploration, mining, and production.
We aim to conduct our investment activities in an ethical manner that avoids prejudice to New
Zealand’s reputation. Climate change is one of many factors ACC considers when making investment
decisions.
We have an Ethical Investment policy that we regularly review to ensure it remains current. We apply
this policy to all investment decisions. A copy of ACC’s Ethical Investment Policy can be found on the
ACC website a
t www.acc.co.nz/assets/corporate-documents/b9a9a73151/ethical-investment-policy.pdf.
ACC is not currently considering revising the Ethical Investment Policy to exclude investments in fossil
fuel exploration, mining or production.
