Thank you for your letter dated 14 June 2019 in which requested the
following information:
1.
The chapter of the Police manual entitled “Police Dogs - Use of
force and Police dogs” or, if no such chapter exists, the
chapter(s) that have superseded this chapter.
2.
Any other documents regarding the use of force and Police dogs,
including any guidance documents regarding when and how the
use of Police dogs should or should not be recorded in the TOR
database.
In response to your questions I provide the following:
1.
The chapter of the Police manual entitled “Police Dogs - Use of force and
Police dogs” or, if no such chapter exists, the chapter(s) that have
superseded this chapter.
Please find attached a copy from the Police Manual - Police Dogs - Part
8 – Use of Force and Police Dogs. This chapter governs how Police dogs
can be deployed when the use of force is necessary.
Any police dog handler who uses force on a person using their police dog
is subject to exactly the same requirements as any other police officer
who need to use force on a person such as baton or O/C spray. That
officer is required to submit a Tactical Options Report.

“Reporting use of force/tactical options use” from the Police Manual.
