RE Official information request CDHB 9952
We refer to your email dated 4 October 2018 requesting the following information under the Official Information
Act from Canterbury DHB regarding rates of people identifying as transgender presenting to Endocrine Services.
Specifically:
1. How many people were referred to the DHB for gender reassignment hormone therapy each year since
2006 until the present time?
2. How many were treated within the DHB and how many were referred to another DHB? If so, where?
3. What was the breakdown of ages in each of those years (youngest/ oldest/ median age)?
4. How many were transitioning male to female and how many female to male in each of those years?
We do not hold the data that you have requested in any format, other than letters of referral or in individual
patient case notes, and there have been approximately 60,000 Endocrinology appointments over the period in
question. For this reason, we are declining to provide specific information under Section 18(f) of the Official
Information Act; i.e.
“…..that the information requested cannot be made available without substantial collation or
research.”
If you disagree with our decision to withhold information you may, under section 28(3) of the Official Information
Act, seek an investigation and review of our decision from the Ombudsman. Information about how to make a
complaint is available a
t www.ombudsman.parliament.nz; or Freephone 0800 802 602.
Please note that this response, or an edited version of this response, may be published on the Canterbury DHB
website after your receipt of this response.
Yours sincerely
