Thank you for your request, received on 20 June 2019 via the Ministry of Health. As notified to you by
the Ministry of Health parts 4 and 5 of your request were transferred to the District Health Boards
under section 14 of the Act. The information below is from Capital and Coast District Health Board
(CCDHB).
• How many, if any, transgender individuals have been referred to endocrine services in New Zealand in
the past five years, broken down by year?
• How many, if any, transgender individuals have been referred to endocrine services in New Zealand in
the past five years, broken down by DHB?
The table below summarises the number of referrals received by the endocrine department at CCDHB
by calendar year where the referral comments included combinations of words such as transition,
gender affirming, transgender, gender dysphoria, male to female, female to male etc.
The calendar year 2019 is for the five month period January 2019 to May 2019.
