I am writing to you in response to your request dated 21 June 2019 which was 
acknowledged by Police on 28 August 2019. You asked: 
I am looking to ascertain how many applications (new and renewals) for firearms 
have been made in New Zealand after March 15 2019. 
Between 15 March 2019 and 15 October 2019, Police has received 11,904 standard (A-
Cat) firearms licence applications; 3,989 of these were for licences that had not been held 
before and 7,915 were for licences that had come to their 10-year expiry.  
For your information, Police has developed a process for proactive release of information, 
so the anonymised response to your request may be publicly released on the New 
Zealand Police website.
