Your Official Information Act request, reference: GOV-000302
Thank you for your email of 24 June 2019, asking for the following information under the Official
Information Act 1982 (the Act):
Please advise the number of covered work related claims for chemical toxicity particularly in those
claimants using spray paints for the painting of aircraft and other large machines
We request these for the period from 2010 up until the present date
Our response: information on chemical-related injury claims is attached
We have interpreted the term ‘chemical toxicity’ as referring to any injury caused by exposure to or
contact with chemicals. Please find the number of accepted claims for these types of injury in the
attached appendix.
Unfortunately, we are not able to provide you with the number of these claims caused by ‘…using spray
paints for the painting of aircraft and other large machines’. Information to this level of detail could
only be determined by a manual search through information held on thousands of individual claim files.
Given this, we are refusing this part of your request on the grounds that the information cannot be
made available without substantial col ation or research. This decision is made under section 18(f) of the
Act.
Privacy
ACC does not routinely disclose client or claim figures below four. Accordingly, we have used the value
<4 where the actual count is between one and three. This measure has been taken to ensure that
individual claims cannot be identified in the statistical information we release. This decision is made
under section 9(2)(a) of the Act. We consider that the public interest in the specific figures does not
outweigh the individual privacy interests.
