Dear Gemma
REQUEST FOR INFORMATION
Thank you for your request dated 20 August 2019 under the Official Information Act 1982
(OIA) for information relating to Pre-exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) funding. Your request was:
Are you able to please provide me with any letters/correspondence from any of the
Labour MP's/staff regarding funding of PrEP. And/or are you able to provide me with
letters/correspondence from any of the Labour MP's/staff regarding their rainbow
policy and funding of drugs such as PrEP.
We sent you emails on 21 August 2019 and on 4 September 2019 asking you to clarify your
request. You responded to our 21 August email on 3 September 2019, however we didn’t
receive a response from you regarding our email of 4 September 2019.
We have interpreted your request as seeking any such information received by PHARMAC
from October 2017, the start of the current Coalition Government, onwards. We have
carefully searched our records for any information we might hold which falls within the scope
of your request. We looked for correspondence from the current Labour MPs, including the
Prime Minister and the Minister of Health. We have determined that we do not hold any such
correspondence.
On this basis your request is refused under section 18(g) of the OIA, as the information is not
held by PHARMAC, and we have no reason to believe it is held by another agency.
Please note you have the right, by way of complaint under section 28(3) of the OIA to an
Ombudsman, to seek an investigation and review of our decision.
Please get in touch with us if you have any questions about this.
Yours sincerely
