Dear John,
I refer to your official information request received by Education New Zealand (ENZ) on 2
September 2019. This response relates to your request, as follows:
I understand the Education agent programme (recognised) has been open now.
https://enz.govt.nz/support/agent-engagement/enz-recognised-agent/
I would like to know if the agency has any professional governance body set up to
regulate the recognised education agent, e.g. similar with other professional body,
Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board. If not, can you please let me know if this topic
has been discuss and please forward me any relevant discussion papers and memos
related to this. Further, if either has happen in the past, can you please submit this as a
public submission for the ENZ's board to discuss in their next meeting under relevant
agenda?
In order to provide you with further context in terms of the information you have requested, please
under the Official Information Act 1982
note that the Education New Zealand Recognised Agency (ENZRA) programme is not a
regulatory programme or professional association but is a recognition programme. ENZ’s work
with agents through the ENZRA programme is focused on providing intelligence, training and
marketing information to education agents at the top end of the quality scale. Information on the
ENZRA programme can be found on the ‘Agent Engagement’ section of ENZ’s website at
https://enz.govt.nz/support/agent-engagement/

The information you have requested is as follows:
• ENZ does not have a professional governance body set up to regulate education agents.
nor has this topic been discussed by ENZ, because ENZ does not regulate education
agents.
• As a Crown Entity, ENZ has a board appointed by the Minister of Education, which is
responsible for the governance of ENZ as a whole. This includes setting the strategic
direction for ENZ and monitoring its performance. ENZ regularly engages with
