[FYI request #11239 email]
Dear Ms Rakete
I am writing in response to your Official Information Act 1982 (the Act) request of 16
September 2019. Specifically you requested:
“Please provide Tactical Options Report (Animal) data, from as far back as records
allow.
Please break this data down by year, animal type, and form of tactical options used”
Please see the attached table that outlines the requested information. The database where
this information is recorded was launched in July 2010 and prior to this information was not
recorded centrally. To collate this information would require a manual search through
electronic and paper files. Therefore data prior to July 2010 is declined under section 18(f)
– substantial collation.
There are various pieces of legislation which give Police the power to use force against
animals. In certain circumstances, such as when an animal is sick or injured, or when an
animal’s behaviour threatens the safety of police or members of the public, humane
destruction of an animal may be necessary.
You have the right, under section 23(3) of the Act, to ask the Ombudsman to review my
decision if you are not satisfied with the way I have responded to your request.
Yours sincerely
Acting Superintendent Andrew Sissons
