Hi Pippa,
Apologies for the delay we were al off-site on Friday. Brodie and Sarah have discussed your email, Brodie’s
response is below:
Hi Pippa
Good to meet with you and Simon last week and we continue to appreciate the support you are providing to this
project. I have also asked Council for clarification on what we need to provide for the landowner approval.
RELEASED UNDER THE OFFICIAL INFORMATION ACT 1982
Regarding the path, the photos show the layout of the path and memorial in the draft design. This was prepared for
a site meeting by the design team, also attended by the arborists we have contracted. The value of this exercise is
that it has highlighted a number of issues and resulted in a number of minor changes to improve the design.
You wil receive this updated information once developed design has been completed (early next week) but in
summary, the memorial has been pivoted around its outermost end so that the base has shifted by about 6m. This
was done to leave a larger area of lawn to the north of the memorial – a better use of the space. The path has also
shifted. A new path is necessary to enable wheelchair access to the memorial at the required 1:20 gradient. As a
result of the site visit, the new path now fol ows the existing path more closely (to the west of the coral tree rather
1
than to the east as shown in the photos) and the memorial itself has been raised slightly to meet the path on a 1:20
gradient. The impact on the existing site is that the path now encroaches far less into the lawn than in the previous
version of the design.

I wil pass on
’s concerns to the design team so they are aware that the paths are a sensitive issue. You wil
receive the revised drawings as part of the landowner approval process.
Kind regards
Brodie

Hi Brodie
Thanks to you and Sarah for meeting the other day. Simon is fol owing up on the process for landowner consent
but Shale as parks lead has confirmed he is happy to act on this delegation rather than a formal business meeting
report . He is just away al of July so we wil need to work around that.
9 (2) (a) approached me yesterday with concerns about the location of a new path.
Is it possible to provide this information requested? Or at least an outline of where the new path is proposed?
Thanks

- If there is a chance for any review at al - it would be good not to have the new path bisecting the gorgeous
north lawn. Can access not be from the existing path or joined onto the path branch off the existing one further

The other issue is way finding signage to this memorial - how many, and where wil they be placed?
Happy to meet on-site if needed.

Thanks for your response
and apologies for the delay in getting back to you, Brodie has asked me to respond.
The existing paths within Dove Myer Robinson park are unaffected by the new memorial. The designers are
currently working on the developed design which includes a new path which leads to the memorial. The next stage
fol owing developed design is landowner approval and resource consent, so the council wil be checking the
proposed path at this stage also.
Thanks,

Hi Brodie,
Thanks for getting back to us.
We have a community meeting this coming Tuesday and it would be great if we could get a plan view of exact
location in Sir Dove Myer Robinson Park and how pedestrian access wil work off existing and/or new pathways
Your Final Design link (https://mch.govt.nz/national-erebus-memorial/final-design) does not give this design
