Dear Adam
Request made under the Official Information Act 1982
Thank you for your email
of 8 October 2019 to the Ministry of Transport requesting information under
the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act). On 14 October 2019, your request was transferred to the
NZ Transport Agency for response. You requested:
“all information pertaining to how much money and what steps were taken to investigate
replacing the one land bridge with a two lane bridge in Waipoua forest between Omapere
and Dargaville. It was part of the bi-election promises made during the northland
bi-election.”
The following information is within the scope of your request and is enclosed:
• Attachment 1:
Extract from Options Report – Northland One Lane Bridges Replacement,
May 2015 – pages 37-40
• Attachment 2:
Extract from Twin Coast Discovery Route – Programme Business Case,
July 2017 – pages 67-68
The Transport Agency does not hold information on the total cost of investigating the replacement of
the Darby and Joan Bridge (the Waipoua Forest Bridge). As described in the documents attached, a
number of issues were quickly identified with upgrading the Darby and Joan Bridge and so further
investigations were not required. The cost attributable to consideration of Darby and Joan Bridge,
within the cost of preparing the Options Report and Programme Business Case, was negligible.
If you would like to discuss this reply with the Transport Agency, please contact Sebastian Reed,
Senior Outcomes Advisor, by email to [email address] or by phone on (09) 928 8769.
Yours sincerely
