Dear Sara
I am writing in response to the email you submitted 9 January 2020. Your request
has been considered pursuant to the Official Information Act 1982. Specifically you
requested:
1. If the review into bodycameras is still closed due to budgetary constraints.
If it is still closed, then I would also like to known what the public can do to
have the review reopened with greater transparency.
I am interpreting your request regarding a ‘review into bodycameras’ to mean the
research project Police commenced in 2018.
On 26 March 2018 the Police Executive Leadership Board requested the research
and evaluation group to undertake research into the use of body worn cameras.
The project was placed on hold later in 2018 as the resources were applied to
other operational activities which at that time took priority over this scoping
exercise research.
At the present time, further work into the use of body worn cameras has not
resumed.
If you are not satisfied with my response to your request, you have a right under
section 28(3) of the Official Information Act 1982 to ask the Office of the
Ombudsman to seek an investigation and review of my decision.
Yours sincerely
Andrew Sissons
