Thank you for your request of 9 March 2020 to the Ministry of Education requesting the
following information:
Rationale behind Changes to Technology Subjects in Provisional NCEA Level 1 - All
correspondence (Including emails, memos, file notes, briefings, reports, meeting notes,
SMS messages - between the Minister of Education, the Chief Executive and Secretary
for Education, and the Senior Manager Secondary Tertiary Group (including those acting
in these roles) from 23/03/2018 to the date this request is acknowledged concerning the
following:
a) The rationale to not include a generic “Technology” subject in the Provisional NCEA Level
1 Subject List
b) The rationale to include the new subject “Food Science” in the Technology learning area
in place of the current Processing Technologies and Home Economics subjects in the
Provisional NCEA Level 1 Subject List
Your request has been considered under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act).
The Ministry needs to extend the timeframe of our response to your request, pursuant to
section 15(A)(1)(b) of the Act, as the consultations necessary to make a decision on the
request are such that a proper response to the request cannot reasonably be made within the
original time limit.
With COVID-19 evolving the Ministry is responding and re-directing resources as needed,
which is impacting on our ability to deliver some of our usual functions within the normal
timeframes. In the current climate it is not possible to provide you with a definitive date by
which we wil be able to respond to your request. However, please be assured that we wil
keep you updated and wil provide you with a new expected due date as soon as we are in a
position to do so. We are grateful for your patience and understanding in these unprecedented
times.
Due to the current climit with COVID-19, the closing date for submissions for the
Review of
Achievement Standards (RAS) – Provisional NCEA Level 1 Subject List has been extended
from 20 April 2020 to 20 June 2020.
