Zane Collins
Dear Mr Collins
Thank you for your Official Information Act (OIA) request: I would like to request the
"detailed" list and type of information that NZ police hold in their system and the NIA
database. I request all categories and subcategories of the type of information, such as;
age, gender, notification alerts, forensic details, intelligence.
Your request covers screens and a database of a very large and varied system. In order
for a detailed list of all the categories and subcategories, including the type of
information, would take a substantial amount of time to be collated. It has been
investigated as to how this could be collated, and it would require a manual collation
through the various screens within the system. If you can narrow your request or let me
know what type of information you are specifically interested in, I will reconsider your
request. However, at this stage, your request is refused in reliance upon section 18(f) of
the Official Information Act 1982 as the information requested cannot be made
available without substantial collation or research.
I have considered whether imposing a charge may assist in facilitating your request but,
due to the volume of information requested and the diversion of Police resources that
would be required, it is not an available option.
You have the right, under s. 28(3) of the Official Information Act 1982, to ask the
Ombudsman to review my decision if you are not satisfied with the way I have
responded to your request.
Yours sincerely
Mhoira Donachie
