Auckland Transport Train Services Cleaning Regime
1: Standard cleaning regime
Interior Cleaning:
• All trains that have been in service are cleaned daily.
• Includes all surfaces, including floors, seats, windows, window sills, glass, ledges, skirting,
doors, steps, walls, ceilings, light fittings, hand rails, grab rails, metal trims and fittings
throughout each carriage.
• Cleaning is done using approved commercial cleaning products for use in sterilising surfaces.
• Cleaning is done according to International Organization for Standardization (ISO) protocols.
The standard interior cleaning regime is deemed high-spec and is seen as having consistent high
commercial standards.
Exterior Cleaning:
• Trains are washed every 10 days in the automated train wash at Wiri.
2: Changes to the standard cleaning regime since last week
• Upgraded interior cleaning products to full antiseptic solution
• All crew issued with anti-septic wet-wipes for proactive hygiene
We have asked the cleaning contractor to increase the scope of the cleaning operations; the
following changes are planned in the short term:
3: Planned short-term changes to the standard cleaning regime
Interior:
• Deploying turn-around cleaners at Britomart to wipe handrails and touch door buttons
during turn-around times from 19 March 2020, between 0700 and 1900.
• Using a hospital and food-grade cleaning solution, along with a higher-spec manual
application process from 19 March 2020.
• Using the higher-grade sanitisation solution via fogging machines, which cover virtually all
surfaces inside a train commencing 20 March 2020.
Exterior:
• Door operation buttons on the exterior of trains to be cleaned daily, with antiseptic solution
from 19 March.
