Dear John
Information Request – Fire and Emergency Local Advisory Committee update
I refer to your official information request dated 6 April 2020 and our extension dated 7 May 2020
regarding your request for the following: updates on Fire and Emergency’s Local Advisory
Committee pilot, when the other Local Advisory Committees will form around New Zealand and
the selection with the current pilot region.
Our Local Advisory Committee (LAC) pilot in the Hawke’s Bay concluded in 2018, and the findings
are available on our website
at https://www.fireandemergency.nz/lacs/background. We are now in the process of establishing seven LACs by 30 June 2020. One will be in the pilot
region of Hawke’s Bay, while the remaining six will be in the Northland, Tairāwhiti, Marlborough,
Chatham Islands, West Coast and Otago areas.
While the boundaries for LACs covering all of New Zealand were publicly consulted on and
approved by the Board, a decision on when LACs will be established for other areas of New
Zealand has not yet been made.
Nominations for members of the LACs listed above closed on 31 January 2020, following which all
applications were evaluated and shortlisted for interview. The Board is currently working through
the appointment process. The selection criteria for membership of LACs is available on our
website a
t https://www.fireandemergency.nz/lacs/who/.
Further information about LACs can be found on our website at
https://www.fireandemergency.nz/lacs/.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this response.
