Re: Executive leadership renumeration 
 
I refer to your email dated 1st November 2013, requesting a detailed breakdown of 
what makes up the Executive Leadership Team remuneration of $3,580,659 
recorded in the Auckland Council Annual Report 2012/2013. 
We are unable to release a detailed breakdown of the costs as this would reveal 
confidential information about the individual remuneration of each Executive 
Leadership Team member. We can confirm that there are ten Executive Leadership 
Team members, excluding the Chief Executive, and the remuneration costs include 
fixed pay, and where appropriate, KiwiSaver contributions. The council does not offer 
performance bonuses to Executive Leadership Team members.  
The 2012/2013 reporting period included additional costs for staff cover for a senior 
Executive Leadership Team member who was absent on long term sick leave. The 
reporting period also includes new remuneration costs for an additional Executive 
Leadership Team member who was recruited to lead the council’s Transformation 
Programme. 
You have the right to seek a review of Councils refusal to disclose any information 
under this letter by application to the Office of the Ombudsman.
