Request under the Official Information Act 1982
Our Ref: OIA353/1
I refer to your request under the Official Information Act 1982 (“OIA”) dated 20 April 2020 in which
you requested the following information:
In the past three years
1. How many Māori women (and what percentage of the total number of applicants) applied for
Tier 2 roles or above?
2. How many Māori women (and what percentage of the total number of successful applicants)
were successfully appointed to the jobs which they applied for at Tier 2 or above?
All answers below exclude the Solicitor‐General (Tier 1), as Crown Law does not appoint candidates
into that role. The State Services Commission holds the responsibility for this appointment and will
respond to this separately.
3. Crown Law does not collect ethnicity details when candidates apply for roles. We are therefore
refusing your request for this information for the reason the information requested does not
exist (s 18(e) OIA).
4. Crown Law only collects ethnicity details when new employees join the organisation. In the last
3 years we have made two appointments into Tier two vacancies, neither appointee have
identified as a Māori women.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any further queries.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this response.
Information about how to access services from the Office of the Ombudsman (including information
about how to make a complaint) is available at www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or via freephone
