Dear Tania
Official Information Act request – Employment equity for Maori women in the public sector
I refer to your email dated 20 April 2020 to the Education Review Office requesting the following
information under the Official Information Act 1982:
In the past three years:
a) How many Maori women (and what percentage of the total number of applicants) applied for Tier
2 roles or above?
b) How many Maori women (and what percentage of the total number of successful applicants) were
successfully appointed to the jobs which they applied for at Tier 2 or above?
I am advised that the State Service Commissioner is responsible for the appointments of Public
Service Chief Executive roles, and the State Services Commission will be responding to you in
relation to Tier 1 roles for (a) and (b).
In relation to Tier 2 roles in the last 3 years there was one position in ERO. There were 17 applicants
for this Tier 2 position, and 4 were Māori women. That is a percentage of 23.5%. The appointee was
not a Māori.
Yours sincerely
Jeremy France
