Ref: OIA 81497
Dear Mr Collins
Official Information Act 1982 request
Thank you for your request under the Official Information Act 1982 (the OIA), dated 25 April 2020, in
which you seek further information in relation to an earlier request of 11 December 2018
. Specifically,
you have asked for the following information:
I have requested a similar request in the past but I want to add under what act each of those appeals
were under?
For clarity, the previous request you refer to was for:
…The number of family court cases applications and applicants appealed in the high court by year
appeal/judicial reviews (2000 to 2018), per year, gender and the outcome of the appeals if dismissed
or accepted.
In response to your earlier request, we provided you with data on the number of disposed Family
Court appeals filed in the High Court, and the outcome of these appeals for the financial years
2005/2006 – 2017/2018. A breakdown of gender was unable to be provided as this data is not
recorded.
In response to your most recent request, the Ministry does not hold data on which act each of the
appeals were filed under in the way you have requested. I am therefore refusing this part of your
request under section 18(g) as the information is not held by the Ministry, and there is no reason to
believe that it is held by another agency subject to the OIA.
Please find attached Table 1, which provides you with updated data on the number of disposed Family
Court appeals filed in the High Court, and the outcome of these appeals for the calendar years 2007-
2019.
I trust this information is of assistance. If you require any further information, please contact Jerram
Watts, Team Leader Media and External Relations (acting), on 027 291 3518, or email
[email address].
If you are not satisfied with this response, you have the right to complain to the Ombudsman in
accordance with section 28(3) of the OIA. You can contact the Ombudsman by writing to PO Box
10152, Wellington 6143, calling 0800 802 602 or emailing [email address].
Yours sincerely
