Request for Official Information
I refer to your request for information made under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act) via the FYI
website, on 28 April 2020.
You have requested the following information:
who is the current board of trustee of PBT and who appoint them, if the Ministry or you appoint them,
how you call for public express of interest in the past, what is their current term of appointment for, also
what is Ministry's involvement in this trust.
As the Minister for Pacific Peoples, I appoint the Pacific Business Trust Board (PBT) as this sits within my
portfolio. The Ministry for Pacific Peoples (the Ministry) is a Nominating Agency that maintains a
nominations database of skilled Pacific people available for governance board opportunities. The Ministry
seeks potential candidates by consulting its regional networks and the Ministry’s nominations database.
The Ministry supports the PBT to deliver business support services directly to the Pacific community in
partnership with other providers. Government funding for PBT also comes from the Ministry’s budget.
The current Chair and members of the PBT Board are Tevita Funaki (Chair), Maria Fuata, Ron Viviani,
Rachel Karalus, Samuelu Sefuiva, Hiueni Nuku, Muaausa Pele Walker. The current term of appointment
for the members is three years.
