Information Request
We refer to your request to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment of 28 June 2020 
requesting the following:
Please confirm whether or not the name "CHE MAXWELL" or any derivative in similar likeness 
or style thereof is listed or registered as an intellectual property held by any person(s), 
agency(s) or departments(s), within and outside NEW ZEALAND.
We have considered your request under the Official Information Act 1982 (“OIA”).
We note that a number of existing intellectual property cases are listed or registered with IPONZ that 
may be construed as a derivative in similar likeness or style as the name “CHE MAXWELL”. 
The degree to which these cases are similar to “CHE MAXWELL” may depend on individual perception. 
For further details on these cases, we recommend that you perform a search of the public intellectual 
property registers on our website, https://www.iponz.govt.nz/.
We note that IPONZ’s jurisdiction is limited to intellectual property that is filed and registered within 
New Zealand. We are therefore not able to advise as to whether or not a given name is listed or 
registered as an intellectual property outside New Zealand.
