Dear Tanya
Official Information Act request relating to hotels contracted for managed isolation
Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (the Act) request of 29 June 2020 for the following
information, received as a transfer from the Ministry of Health to the Department of Prime Minister and
Cabinet (DPMC) on 8 July 2020. As the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) is now
the lead agency for the provision of Managed Isolation and Quarantine arrangements, MBIE has
accepted this request in turn from DPMC:
Can you please provide the names and locations of the hotels that are currently being used for
managed isolation and quarantine facilities.
Do you have another list of hotels that are on standby or yet to be used as managed isolation
facilities? If so, please provide those names/locations also.
The current list of managed isolation facilities (MIFs) you have requested can be found on the Unite
against Covid-19 website; therefore, I am refusing your request under section 18(d) of the Act as the
information requested is publicly available. Please find a link to the relevant section of the Unite against
Covid-19 website below.
https://covid19.govt.nz/travel-and-the-border/border-restrictions/managed-isolation-and-
quarantine/facility-names-and-locations/
The list available on Unite against Covid-19 will be updated regularly when new facilities are utilised.
With respect to the second part of your request, if further facilities are required, there will be
negotiations with further locations for potential use as MIFs. As soon as negotiations are finalised, the
locations commence use as MIFs. As such, there is no list of hotels on standby, or yet to be used as
MIFs. Your request is therefore refused under section 18(g)(i) of the Act, that the information
requested is not held by the department or Minister of the Crown or organisation and the person
dealing with the request has no grounds for believing that the information is either held by another
department or Minister of the Crown or organisation, or by a local authority.
