File No: DOIA 2021 – 0171
Dear Sunny Kumar
Thank you for your email on 14 July 2020, requesting the fol owing information under the Official
Information Act 1982 (the OIA):
I would like to know the answers to the fol owing questions regarding partnership visas being
processed at the Hamilton INZ branch:
- What documents are/were in 2019-2020 required for partnership visa?
- Do the marriage certificate and chat history is sufficient to get partnership visa approved? If
not, which other documents require and what is the purpose of providing those?
- Is it must for applicant partner having both of there names and common residence address
to be updated on all required documents? If so, which documents are those which must be
having both of there details?
Our response
What documents are/were in 2019-2020 required for partnership visa? Do the marriage certificate
and chat history is sufficient to get partnership visa approved? If not, which other documents require
and what is the purpose of providing those?
Immigration New Zealand (INZ) considers partnership applications very carefully and an immigration
officer needs to be satisfied that the applicant meets immigration instructions – i.e. that the
immigration officer is satisfied that relationship is credible, genuine and stable, and likely to endure.
It is the responsibility of the applicant to satisfy the immigration officer that the requirements of
immigration instructions have been met. Marriage alone is not sufficient evidence for the purposes
of the immigration instructions and applicants are required to provide a range of
documentation. The purpose of these documents is to demonstrate that the applicant and their
partner are living together in a genuine and stable relationship as required by immigration
instructions. In cases where INZ is not satisfied immigration requirements have been met, additional
documentation may be requested and verification may be completed.
The evidence required in support of partnership for a temporary and residence visa is publically
available and it can be found here:
https://www.immigration.govt.nz/new-zealand-visas/apply-for-a-
visa/tools-and-information/support-family/partnership and here:

We are therefore refusing this part of your request under section 18 (d) of the OIA because the
information requested in publically available.
Is it must for applicant partner having both of there names and common residence address to be
updated on all required documents? If so, which documents are those which must be having both of
there details?
