Dear Mr Lee
RE: Official Information Request – List and summary of modelling work done for the
Manukau Harbour
Watercare received from Auckland Council your request for a summary of modelling work
done for the Manukau Harbour.
Hydrodynamic modelling work on the Manukau Harbour commissioned by Watercare
include extensive work done in the 1980s and early 1990s as part of the Wastewater 2000
consultation, aiming to upgrade the Mangere wastewater treatment plant. One of the main
ones was
Delft Hydraulics 1993: Manukau Harbour dispersion model ing, Auckland, New
Zealand. This was focused on model ing the treated wastewater discharge and understand
the best location for it.
Since then, localised model ing has been done for the Waiuku wastewater treatment plant
project in 2016:
DHI 2016: Clarks Beach WWTP Options Study Hydrodynamic Model ing
DHI 2018: Waiuku Wastewater Treatment Plant Outfall model ing
Significant work is underway with NIWA, started in 2016 to produce hydrodynamic and
water quality models for the whole of the Manukau Harbour. This work is still in progress.
The DHI 2016 and 2018 reports are attached. The 1993 one is too large to be emailed, happy
to share it via another means if there is interest.
Yours sincerely
