of 20 August 2020 requesting the following information under the Official Information Act
1982 (the Act):
I wish to know who is the business that has the current contract for maintaining the clearance of rubbish
from the roadside on SH 7, beginning with the junction of State Highways 1 & 7 near Waipara and up to
the turn-off for Hanmer Springs.
Secondly, I would also like to know the dates of the start and end of this contract.
Thirdly please provide the name of the organization, along with a contact person and or department
phone number, responsible for overseeing the performance of the contract.
Lastly, I wish to know (within $10,000) the approximate value of this current contract and from where the
funding to pay it comes from.
With regard to the information on which contractor is contracted by Waka Kotahi for North Canterbury, the
approximate value of their contract and their contract tenure, I can advise you that this information is publicly
available on our website her

maint-renewals-programme.pdf. As this is publicly available, I am obliged to refuse this part of your request under
section 18(d) of the Act. Regarding the funding to maintain our state highway, this is provided from the National
Land Transport Fund.
Waka Kotahi has the responsibility to oversee our contractor’s work. Our Maintenance Contract Manager, who
has the oversight for maintenance and operation in the North Canterbury region is Barry Stratton.
Under section 28 of the Act, you have the right to ask the Ombudsman to review my decision to refuse parts of
