Dear Mr Perry
Thank you for your request to Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities of 7 September 2020 for the
following information under the Official Information Act 1982:
Please can you advise How many Kainga Ora state houses currently meet Healthy Homes
standards
In 2019, the Government introduced new Healthy Homes Standards to ensure all rental properties,
including public housing, are warm, dry and healthy. These standards have set new minimum
residential rental property requirements for:
·
heating
·
insulation
·
ventilation
·
moisture and drainage; and
·
draught stopping.
As at 25 September 2020, Kāinga Ora has confirmed that 4,092 lettable units fully meet the
standards.
It is important to note that the actual number with the required interventions, either in whole or part, is
more than this total – the certification process is the final stage to confirm compliance. Certification of
properties was delayed by COVID-19 Lockdown, where this compliance work was not deemed as
essential.
To ensure our portfolio is compliant by 1 July 2023, the programme will be scaled up to complete the
remainder of our rental property portfolio over the next three years. This will see between 30 to 35
percent of our property portfolio completed during each of the next three years.
Yours sincerely
