Official Information Act (1982) Request 2021-0163 
I refer to your official information request dated 12 September 2020 for information relating 
to the disposal of books from the National Library of New Zealand. 
The OIA requires that we advise you of our decision on your request no later than 20 
working days after the day we receive your request. We are writing to notify you of an 
extension to the time limit to make our decision. 
The Department is extending the time available to respond to your request under both 
section 15A(1)(a) and (b) of the Act, as the request is for a large quantity of information or 
necessitates a search through a large quantity of information; and as consultations are 
necessary to make a decision your request cannot reasonably be met within the original 
time limit. 
The response wil  now be provided to you by 30 November 2020. All efforts will be made to 
respond sooner if possible. 
You have the right to seek a review by the Ombudsman regarding the request for an 
extension. Information about how to make a complaint is available at
