Official Information Act Request
Thank you for your request of 16 September 2020, under the Official Information Act 1982, for the
following information:
The Scholarship Pass rate of each question answered in Part B and Part C of the
Scholarship English Paper, dating as far back as possible?
Please find the information covered by your request in the attached document:
• Scholarship English Scores by Question 2006-2019
Scores from 0 to 8 have been provided for each question of Part B and Part C of the NZ
Scholarship English paper between 2006 and 2019. Note that Candidates do not pass or fail on
individual questions. It is only when the scores are aggregated and cut scores are set normatively,
at 3% or 0.3% of the Level 3 student cohort, that Scholarships or Outstanding Scholarships
respectively are awarded. For each question, a score of 5-6 reflects a Scholarship performance and
7-8 reflects an Outstanding Scholarship performance. More detail is available at:
https://www.nzqa.govt.nz/qualifications-standards/awards/new-zealand-scholarship/. As part of the commitment to open and transparent government, NZQA is proactively releasing
