Official Information Act Request – Naming of buildings on campus
I refer to your requests for information under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act)
dated
18 September 2020:
Can I please request the following information regarding buildings and
places on campus, excluding halls of residence.
1. A list of buildings/places named after women.
2. A list of buildings/places named after men.
3. A list of buildings/places not named after a person.
4. A list of buildings/places named after Māori individuals
5. What factors are considered by the University when selecting names for
buildings/places.
See the
attached spreadsheet which contains a list of buildings and places on
campus and indicates the source of each name.
Please note that this list includes a number of buildings and places on campus that
are leased by the University; as such, the University is not responsible for the naming
rights of these buildings and places.
The University’s Naming Rights Statute sets out the criteria and procedures for
awarding naming rights to specified parties. The Statute i
s publicly available.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this
decision. Information about how to make a complaint is available at
