Dear
Samuel
Official information request for any information regarding students' social
media posts
I refer to your request for information under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act)
dated
16 October 2020.
“- Does the university have any collated information regarding students' social
media posts (social media posts being anything from, Twitter, Facebook,
Instagram, Tik Tok, etc)”
The University has made reasonable efforts to locate any collated information it might
hold regarding students’ social media posts. We have consulted with the relevant
personnel as to whether the University holds the kind of information referred to in your
request. This consultation has determined that the University does not collate students’
social media posts.
“- If so, may I see this information?
- If this information exists, for what purpose does it serve?”
There is no collated information within the scope of your request. We are therefore
refusing this part of your request under section 18(g) of the Act because the information
is not held by the University and we have no grounds for believing that it is held by any
other agency or that it is more closely connected with the functions of another agency.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this
decision. Information about how to make a complaint is available at
www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802 602.
If you wish to discuss this decision with us, please feel free to contact me at
