[FYI request #14049 email]
Dear A Birch
Thank you for your emails of 29 October 2020 to the Ministry of Education requesting
information under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act), copies of which are attached.
The Act requires that you are advised of the decision on your request no later than 20 working
days after the day we received your request, being 26 November 2020. Unfortunately, it wil
not be possible to meet that time limit and we are therefore writing to notify you of an extension
of the time to make the decision on your request pursuant to sections 15A(1)(a) and (b) of the
Act, to 22 January 2021. We wil try to respond sooner than this date if possible.
Please note that under section 2 of the Act the 20 working day period for an organisation to
make a decision on a request excludes the period commencing with 25 December in any year
and ending with 15 January in the following year. This means the date by which the Ministry
is required to make a decision on your request is being extended by 25 working days.
This extension is necessary because the request involves the collation of a substantial amount
of information, which has been progressed, and consultation is involved to make a decision
on your request. The proper response cannot reasonably be made within the original time
limit.
You have the right to ask an Ombudsman to review this decision. You can do this by writing
to [email address] or Office of the Ombudsman, PO Box 10152, Wellington
6143.
