Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) – Response – OIA2021012802
Thank you for your official information request regarding Kāpiti airport usage, which was received by
Capital & Coast District Health Board (CCDHB) on 28 January 2021. Your request was as follows:
“Since Wellington airport has become unavailable overnight, medical flights
have used Kapiti as an alternative. With the proposed closure of this airport, I
would like to request the number of times Kapiti airport has been used over
the past six months by flights providing services for Wellington hospital.”
Our response to your request is outlined below.
Response
Our flight data records and the flight records from Air Whanganui show there have been 21 missions
involving Kāpiti Coast Airport in the last 6 months. For clarity, Air Whanganui is the fixed wing service
we need to use for accessing Kāpiti Coast Airport, as the Life Flight aircraft cannot land there.
I trust this information fulfils your request. You have the right, under section 28 of the OIA, to seek an
investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision. Information about how to make a
complaint is available at
www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or you can free phone 0800 802 602.
