Resource Consent Process
Thank you for your request made under the Local Government Official Information and Meetings
Act 1987 (the Act), received on 10 February 2021. You requested the fol owing information between
1 January 2020 to 31 December 2020:
1. Number of Resource Consents submitted to the Council (broken down by dwel ing and/or
consent type).
2. The total number of Resource Consents approved (again, broken down).
3. Grounds and considerations (if any) the Council considers expediting the Resource Consent
process.
4. An average number of days between initial submission and final approval (approximation
acceptable).
5. Future steps (if any) the Council is considering shortening the length of the Resource
Consenting process for al applicants.
Wel ington City Council has partly
granted your request for information at no cost.
Please see attached document responding to questions 1 and 2.
The Council must legally make decisions based on the grounds and considerations as prescribed by
the Resource Management Act 1991 and the Wel ington City District Plan. The Council provides a
premium 'fast-track' service for applicants on request, however this is not always possible,
particularly if the application is not straight-forward for example large developments, high profile
developments or those with lots of interest.
The average number of days to process a non-notified application is 18 working days.
The Council is not considering shortening the length of the resource consent process as this
is currently governed by the Resource Management Act and/or any future legislation. While some
applications take less than the statutory working days, the majority take the full 20 working days.
Right of review
If you are not satisfied with the Council’s response, you may request the Office of the Ombudsman
to investigate the Council’s decision. Further information is available on the Ombudsman website,
www.ombudsman.parliament.nz.
Thank you again for your request, if you have any questions please feel free to contact me.
Kind regards
