Official Information Act request: Privacy of Disputes Tribunal proceedings 
 
Thank you for your email of 1 March 2021 requesting, under the Of icial Information Act 
1982 (the Act), information regarding the Disputes Tribunal. Specifically, you requested: 
 
Would you please provide me with any information held by the Ministry, such as 
cabinet papers, reports to ministers, and internal memorandum, which relate to why 
hearings in, and decisions of, the Disputes Tribunal remain private contrary to the 
numerous recommendations from the Law Society to make them public?  
 
A response to your request is currently being prepared. However, some of the documents 
you have requested are not held on site and it wil  take us some time to retrieve the hard 
copies. Therefore, a response cannot reasonably be made within the original time limit. 
Accordingly, I am extending the time limit for response to this request by 20 working days 
under section 15A of the Act and wil  respond to you by 29 April 2021.  
 
You have the right under section 28(3) of the Act to complain to the Ombudsman about the 
decision to extend the time for responding to your request. The Ombudsman may be
