Dear Kieran
Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987 (LGOIMA)
Re: Copies of correspondence – council staff cuts
We refer to your request received on 19 May 2021, where you asked for information relating
to staffing cuts and the hiring freeze in 2020.
We have set out your request and our response below.
Your request
Please provide under the OIA all documents, advice, communications and records of
meetings which discuss the April 2020 decision to give notice to contractors, consultants or
"contingency workers" and begin a hiring freeze for new staff as discussed in this article
https://www.interest.co.nz/news/104701/auckland-council-faces-massive-drop-revenue-due-
lockdown-and-expected-recession-proposes
Please include communication between Auckland council staff, and between council staff
and politicians. I am interested in the decision making process and planning of, and reaction
to the announcement.
I do not need information produced after July 2020.
Please include any estimates of the cost savings related to these decisions.
Our response
Informed by the information we knew of, we conducted ICT searches in an attempt to locate
the email correspondence between the relevant people.
Some of those searches lead to between 1000 and 4100 results. We are therefore refusing
the provision of information on the basis of substantial collation.
We also carried out a manual search to identify some relevant information that we could
provide you without encountering issues of substantial collation and research. We have
focused on the key dates involved and have identified some information within the scope of
the request.
