Your Official Information Act request OIA20/21-0681
Thank you for your email of 26 May 2021 requesting the fol owing under the Official
Information Act 1982 (the Act):

implementing the CVE work programme, dated since the programme's inception

shortly.” I request copies of both the strategy and briefing referenced here.
FOUR: A copy of the DVE team business plan, operating strategy and operating model
FIVE: A copy of the New Zealand Online Crisis Response Process”
There are five documents that fall within the scope of your request, these are listed at
Appendix A.
Some information has been withheld from these documents under sections 6(a) and 9(2)(a)
of the Act. These sections provide that good reason for withholding official information:
• exists if the making available of that information would be likely to prejudice the
security or defence of New Zealand; and
• is necessary to protect the privacy of natural persons.
The request for the document at point three of your request is refused under section 18(d),
as it is publicly available. The document
Countering terrorism and violent extremism national
strategy overview can be viewed at https://dpmc.govt.nz/publications/new-zealands-
counter-terrorism-strategy. This work is led by the Department of the Prime Minister and
Cabinet. The Department of Internal Affairs has not provided any further briefings on the
strategy to the Minister of Internal Affairs.
As is required by section 9(1) of the Act, I have considered whether the grounds for
withholding this information are outweighed by other considerations which would make it
desirable, in the public interest, to make that information available. In this instance, I do not
consider that to be the case.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review of my decision by the Ombudsman
under section 28(3) of the Act. Information about how to make a complaint is available at
www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802 602.
We intend to publish our response to your request on our website at
www.dia.govt.nz. This
letter, with your personal details removed, will be published in its entirety. Publishing
responses increases the availability of information to the public and is consistent with the
Act’s purpose of enabling more effective participation in the making and administration of
laws and policies and promoting the accountability of Ministers and officials.
