Dear Mr McLean
Thank you for your request, received on 20 June 2021 via the FYI website for clarification of
data published on the Authority’s EMI website.
We acknowledge the feedback you have provided regarding the data available, and your
concern over its accuracy.
The data you have referred to is received on a monthly basis from NZX (in their capacity as
reconciliation manager) and is published on EMI in the form in which it is received. Like many
other data sets we receive, the data provided is measuring injections into networks or the grid. If
more than one generating unit injects at the same metering point then we can't, with the
information we have at our disposal, identify which plant did what.
Participants may at times change how they classify data (in order to minimise transmission and
network charges). The Authority does not attempt to reclassify the data and publishes what has
been provided.
The Authority regularly reviews the data we publish and assesses whether legacy data is still fit
for purpose. This particular data set is one the Authority is looking at replacing with one that is
better defined and supported by the underlying market systems, ie, the reconciliation process.
Work on this is progressing and we hope to be in a position to replace this data set within the
coming months.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of our response.
Information about how to make a complaint is available at

If you wish to discuss this decision with us, please feel free to email

Yours sincerely
