Re: Costs for Maori policy unit and IMSB
I refer to your email dated 5 April 2014, which we received on 7 April 2014, requesting
information about the costs for council’s Maori policy unit and Independent Moari Statutory
Board.
There is no monthly reporting to council but rather a quarterly performance report which
covers Maori Outcomes and Treaty audit responses. This report is presented to the Finance
and Performance Committee of council, and the agenda papers are available to the public
on the council websit
e www.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz. The December quarterly report was
presented to the Finance and Performance Committee meeting which was held on the 20
February 2014.
We have monthly internal management reporting which details the costs of Te Waka
Angamua (council’s Maori policy unit) and the Independent Maori Statutory board and their
costs are as follows.
1) Te Waka Angamua
• The budget for the current financial year from July 2013 to June 2014 is $4.9 million.
• The actual spend for the current financial year from July 2013 to February 2014 for
Te Waka Angamua was $2.3 million, comprising the following:

Staff costs $1.5 million

Professional services $0.5 million
-
Other expenditure $0.3m.
• For the February month end, there were 27 Full Time Equivalent staff.
2) Independent Maori Statutory Board
• The budget for the current financial year from July 2013 to June 2014 is $2.6 million.
• The actual spend for the current financial year from July 2013 to February 2014 for
the Independent Maori Statutory Board was $1.3 million, comprising the following:

Staff costs $0.7 million

Professional services $0.1 million

Other expenditure $0.5m.
• For the February month end, there were 11 Full Time Equivalent staff.

Should you believe Auckland Council has not responded appropriately to your request, you
have the right by way of complaint, under section 27(3) of the LGOIMA, to apply to the
Ombudsmen to seek an investigation and review of the decision.
