Dear Ms Haden
Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987
Re: World's most liveable city scorecard
I refer to your email, which we received on 16 April 2014 and subsequent clarification received on the
20th April, requesting information about the most liveable city objective in the Annual Report
The Local Government (Auckland Council) Act 2009, which established the Auckland Council,
includes stipulations on the role of the Mayor of Auckland and the requirement to develop and
promote a vision for Auckland.
Specifically, section 9 of the Act states that:
9
Mayor of Auckland
(1) The role of the mayor is to—
(a) articulate and promote a vision for Auckland; and
(b) provide leadership for the purpose of achieving objectives that will contribute to that
vision
Furthermore, section 9 of the Act also states:
(2) Without limiting subsection (1), it is the role of the mayor to—
(a) lead the development of Council plans (including the LTP and the annual plan),
policies, and budgets for consideration by the governing body.
The mayoral vision is “to create the world’s most liveable city”, which is articulated and promoted in
accordance with legislated role of the Mayor. The mayoral vision provides the framework for council
activities including all council plans, policies and budgets, in conjunction with the requirements of
section 9(2)(a) of the Act noted above.
The Annual Report for each year is prepared across Auckland Council and adopted by the Governing
Body.
I trust that this answers your request. If you have any further queries please contact me on 09 301

Yours sincerely
