[FYI request #16249 email]
Dear Leonie
We refer to your information request dated 29 July 2021 made under the Official Information Act
1982 (Act). You have requested information relating to student grades for Maori 102.
Specifically, you have requested “a statistical breakdown of the average grade distribution for the
years 2021 semester 1. For example: 7% of students got an A+ in POLS papers, 2% got an A+ in
LAWS, 5% got an A+ in PHIL, etc”.
We emailed you on 4 August 2021 to seek clarification of your request.
We note that we have not heard back from you. Accordingly, we have interpreted your request to be
for a grade breakdown for the Maori 102 (MAOR102) paper only for Semester One.
You have requested that this data be sent in a machine-readable format, ideally in a spreadsheet
format. Please find attached a spreadsheet that shows the grade breakdown of the MAOR102 paper
for Semester One 2021.
Please note that for privacy reasons, the University’s standard practice is not to report on specific
numbers where those numbers relate to less than 5 students. Where the numbers are very low
there is a risk that the identity of these students could be determined or inferred, and that their
personal information (i.e. their marks) could be revealed. We therefore withhold this information
pursuant to section 9(2)(a) of the Act.
We trust that you will find this information helpful.
We note your right to seek a review of this decision via a complaint to an Ombudsman. However, we
would welcome the opportunity to discuss any concerns with you first.
Yours sincerely
