I refer to your email of 29 July 2021 requesting, under the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA):
The overall cost paid by the NZDF for maternity wear uniforms.
From 1 July 2020 to 30 June 2021, the amount paid by the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF)
for maternity-wear uniforms was $10,333.46.
how the design process was conducted for the design of maternity uniforms.
how many women were involved in the design, if testing of uniforms were conducted prior to
large scale manufacture/procurement
The uniforms were designed before 2001. Information about how the design process was
conducted has not been located in the records of the relevant NZDF business unit. Accordingly,
these parts your request are declined under section 18(e) of the OIA as the information
requested has not been found despite reasonable attempts to locate it.

There is a current project to revitalise the maternity uniform for all three Services and
engagement with Wāhine Toa is a major part of this project. Wāhine Toa is an internal NZDF
programme to enhance the participation of women throughout New Zealand’s armed forces.
Input from members of Wāhine Toa includes, but is not limited to, design approval and
providing personnel to trial the uniform.
how many NZDF uniformed personnel have been issued with maternity wear.
Thirty-two uniforms have been issued for financial year 2020/2021.
You retain a right, under section 28(3) of the OIA, to ask an Ombudsman to review this response
to your request.
