Information Request – Incident Reports
I refer to your official information request dated 6 August 2021 asking for the fol owing
information:
1. The ICAD report for a vegetation fire that was reported approx 2am on Wednesday
7thJuly 2021 on SH1 some 60 km north of Kaikoura and near Wharanui Beach Road.
This fire included an area of the Blue Slips Conservation Reserve (DOC).
2. The ICAD report for incident F3210655 (Te Ihu).
3. The ICAD report for incident F3210676 (Te Ihu).
In accordance with the provisions of the Official Information Act 1982, I
enclose the information
covered by points 1 and 2 of your request. Some information has been redacted to protect the
privacy of individuals identified in the reports.
Please note the SMS Incident Reports provided to you are generated by Fire and Emergency New
Zealand’s electronic station management system (SMS Report). In SMS Reports, ‘Notifications’ and
‘Message Log’ fields are reported in real time as fire crews and our communication centres
communicate with each other during the incident. They are not the official final records of
incidents but word for word transcripts of ‘live’ situations as they occur. They may contain spelling
errors or commonly used abbreviations.
The Official Information Act 1982 requires that we advise you of our decision on your request no
later than 20 working days after the day we received your request. Unfortunately, it wil not be
possible to meet that time limit in respect of point 3 of your request. In accordance with section
15A of the Act, we notify you of an extension of the time to make our decision, to 1 October 2021.
The reason for the extension is that consultations necessary to make a decision on your request
for ICAD report F3210676 are such that a proper response to your request cannot reasonably be
made within the original time limit.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision.
Information about how to make a complaint is available
at www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or
freephone 0800 802 602.
