Response to your request for Official Information  
On 9 August 2021, you requested from the Human Rights Commission (“the Commission”) the 
following information: 
1. 
Has your agency contracted work to Research New Zealand in the last five years? 
2. 
If so, did you provide private information or data on individuals to Research New 
Zealand? 
3. 
If so, what agreements did you make with Research New Zealand regarding privacy and 
data retention? 
4. 
Have you been notified of any data breaches, security issues, or privacy issues with 
Research New Zealand? 
In response to your first request, the Commission confirms that it has commissioned work from 
Research New Zealand in the last five years.  
In response to your second request, the Commission did not provide any information to Research 
New Zealand about individuals.  Research New Zealand collected data for an online survey from an 
online panel on the Commission’s behalf.  This did not involve the sharing of any identifiable 
information between Research New Zealand and the Commission.   
In response to your third request, only de-identified data was shared with the Commission (in the form 
of analysed survey responses).  
In response to your fourth request, the Commission has not been notified of any data breaches or 
privacy issues with Research New Zealand.
