OIA request 21/22 0214 Request for information relating to Apple Wallet Electronic Passport
Thank you for your Official Information Act (Act) request, received by the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs and Trade on 29 August 2021.
You requested, in an email you sent with the Subject line ‘Apple Wallet Electronic Passport’ –

I'm interested in documents including emails, vendor solicitations, requests for proposals,
and project proposals related to Apple Wallet ID card program, which is referenced
publicly on their website here: https://www.apple.com/ios/ios-15-preview/ While the
program is publicly announced, they have not shared participating locations and I'm
interested in any responsive documents whether or not the MFAT has decided to
participate in the program.
Your request was then transferred to the Department of Internal Affairs (Department) for
response under section 14 of the Act on 8 September 2021, as the information requested more
closely relates to the Department’s functions.
In response to your request I can confirm there has been no engagement between the
Department and Apple regarding New Zealand Passports and the Apple Wallet. Your response
must therefore be refused pursuant to section 18(e) of the Act; that the document al eged to
contain the information requested does not exist.
As this information may be of interest to other members of the public, the Department has
decided to proactively release a copy of this response on the DIA website. Al requestor data,
including your name and contact details, will be removed prior to release. The released
