[FYI request #16654 email] Dear Nic
Thank you for your email of 7 September 2021 to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment requesting
the following information under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act),:
“A breakdown by year of the number of funding applications that have been submitted in Te Reo Māori over
the last three financial years to the Major Events Fund.”
We have interpreted your request to relate to any applications to the Major Events Fund (inclusive of the Creative
and Cultural Incubator Fund) that have been submitted fully in Te Reo Māori.
We can confirm that MBIE has had no event applications over the last three financial years that were submitted fully
in Te Reo Māori, or even in their majority in Te Reo Māori. This also holds true for applications submitted in the
period beyond the last three financial years.
All applications to date have included some wording in Te Reo Māori, however its use is extremely minimal
compared to the rest of the application, mainly written in English. For example, it could be one word in Te Reo
Māori in a paragraph, such as referring to a place by its name in Te Reo Māori.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision. Information about how
to make a complaint is available a
t www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802 602.
Yours sincerely,
Susan Sawbridge
