Dear Mr Hunua
Official Information Act (OIA) Request – Freeview Satellite
We acknowledge receipt of your OIA request of 8 September 2021, relating to Freeview satellite
services.
Please find below Kordia Group Limited’s response to your request.
1.
Has Kordia finalised a deal for Freeview satellite capacity beyond 2022? If so when will details
of this be released?
Yes, Kordia has finalised a deal with its satellite provider for Freeview satellite capacity to
continue beyond 2022. Details of this will be released once confidential customer commercial
negotiations are completed.
Therefore, except to the extent answered above, the request for information is declined under
section 18(d) of the OIA on the basis that it will soon be made public, and under sections 9(2)
(b)(ii), (i) and (j) on the basis that disclosing the information now would be likely to prejudice
Kordia’s commercial position, commercial activities and commercial negotiations in respect of
those customer negotiations. In our opinion, these considerations are not outweighed by other
considerations which render it desirable, in the public interest, to make that information
available.
2.
Will Freeview via satellite continue in its current form?
Kordia expects that Freeview via satellite will continue in its current form beyond 2022, although
this question may be better directed to Freeview and/or broadcasters.
3.
Will HD be added to satellite?
Currently Kordia has no plans to add HD, but this could change in the future depending on
Freeview’s and our broadcast customers’ requirements.
4.
After Kordia trialled 4K on Freeview terrestrial, will this be developed further and rollout out to all
Kordia Freeview Sites?
Currently Kordia has no plans to rollout 4K, but this could change in the future depending on
Freeview’s and our broadcast customers’ requirements.
To the extent that this response constitutes a refusal to provide the requested information, we are
obliged under section 19(b) of the OIA to advise you of your right, under section 28(3) of the OIA, to
complain to the Ombudsman to seek investigation and review of the refusal.
However, please contact me if you wish to clarify any aspect of this letter.
Yours sincerely
Michael Jamieson
